CoinGecko

What it is

CoinGecko is an independent crypto market data site covering prices, market caps, historical charts and per-exchange volume for tens of thousands of tokens. It is not owned by any exchange.

When you need it

• Before buying a token: check its market cap rank, circulating supply and which exchanges list it
• Comparing the same token's price and depth across exchanges
• Spotting red flags — a "trending" token listed only on obscure exchanges is a risk signal

Quick start

1. Search the token name or ticker and check market cap rank and 24h volume first — low rank plus thin volume means high slippage and rug risk.
2. Open the Markets tab to see where it trades and how volume is distributed.
3. Build a watchlist so you can track prices without logging into an exchange.

Safety note

Market data is neutral reference material, but always re-verify a token's official links against the ones listed on its CoinGecko page — never trust contract addresses posted in social media threads.
