OKX Order Not Filling? Five Common Reasons and What to Do

A limit order sitting untouched is not a platform glitch - it is the matching engine doing its job. Price too far away, queue position, thin depth, untriggered conditional orders, or time-in-force settings: here is how to tell which one it is.

OKX Order Not Filling? Five Common Reasons and What to Do

Checked July 13, 2026. Matching rules described here are industry-standard; interface details follow OKX's official pages.

An unfilled order is almost never "the platform is stuck." Spot matching runs on two rules only: better price first; at the same price, earlier order first. Check your situation against the five causes below and the answer is usually obvious.

Reason 1: your limit price is away from the market

A buy below market or a sell above market is an order waiting for the market to come to it. If price never comes back, the order just sits.

Fix: look at the order book. To fill faster, move a buy toward the best ask or a sell toward the best bid; for guaranteed execution use a market order and accept the usually-higher taker fee - trade-offs in limit vs market orders.

Reason 2: you are queuing at the same price

Price touched your level but you only partially filled? Orders placed before yours at the same price fill first; the market moved on before your turn.

Fix: editing an order re-queues it. The only real accelerator is a more competitive price.

Reason 3: the pair is thin

Illiquid pairs have sparse books; a large order nibbles away slowly.

Fix: switch to the coin's most liquid pair (usually the USDT pair), split large orders into slices, and read the depth chart before committing size.

Reason 4: the conditional order has not triggered

TP/SL and trigger orders are standby instructions before the trigger price is touched - they are not in the matching queue at all.

Fix: check the conditional tab under Open orders and verify the trigger settings; the logic is covered in the TP/SL setup guide.

Reason 5: time-in-force or order state

Advanced options (post-only, IOC/FOK) cancel the order under specific conditions instead of letting it rest. And sometimes the order was simply cancelled by hand and forgotten.

Fix: open Order history and read the final state - cancelled vs expired - then review the advanced options used.

Quick self-diagnosis

Symptom Likely cause First move
Limit far from last price 1 Reprice against the book
Touched but partial fill 2/3 Check same-price depth
Order sits in conditional tab 4 Verify trigger price
Order vanished 5 Check order history

FAQ

Q: Do unfilled orders cost anything? No - fees apply only on execution, and cancelling is free. The fee structure is in how OKX fees work.

Q: Are funds locked while an order rests? Yes, and released on cancel. If a new order reports insufficient balance, look for old resting orders holding the funds - or coins still sitting in the Funding account.

Q: Does an overnight order expire? A plain limit order rests until filled or cancelled - no overnight expiry.
