OKX Spot Buy Fees: Pay in BTC or USDT and Check What Was Deducted
Buying BTC on OKX but receiving less than the filled amount? See when a spot fee is taken in BTC or USDT, how to check the payment setting, and how to verify the actual fill.
If your OKX spot buy fee leaves you with less BTC than the order quantity, check which currency paid the fee before assuming the trade filled incorrectly. In the usual “pay in currency received” mode, a BTC/USDT buy deducts the fee from the BTC delivered. OKX has also announced a “pay in quote currency” option for eligible spot buys: the full BTC quantity arrives, while the USDT spent includes an additional fee. The option may not be available in every jurisdiction or account. Your own setting and fill record settle the question.

The official OKX announcement, viewed October 6, 2026. It describes both payment methods and warns that the feature may not apply to every customer.
First, find your rate for the actual spot pair
The fee percentage is not a single sitewide number. According to OKX’s trading-fee FAQ, your signed-in fee tier and the instrument determine the applicable maker and taker rates. On the website, check Assets → My trading fees, or open the spot pair and look for Fees in the order panel. In the app, the FAQ points to Trade → More → Fee rules for the selected pair. Use the rate shown for your account, pair, and region; a logged-out fee table or another person’s screenshot is only a reference.
Maker and taker describe how a fill executes. A limit order that matches immediately can be a taker fill, while one that rests on the order book can be maker. If this distinction is unclear, see why a limit order does not always earn the maker rate. An order can fill in several parts, so the final fee may differ from an estimate made before placing it.
On a spot buy, which currency pays the fee?
For a BTC/USDT order, BTC is the base currency and USDT is the quote currency. OKX’s spot-fee payment announcement describes two buy-side methods:
| Buy-side method | What happens to a BTC/USDT buy | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Pay in currency received | The fee is taken from BTC; net BTC received is below the filled BTC quantity. | BTC fee amount and net BTC credited. |
| Pay in quote currency, where offered | The fee is added in USDT; the full filled BTC quantity is delivered. | USDT fee amount and total USDT spent. |
This changes the currency and delivery amount, not by itself your maker or taker rate. It also does not mean the quote-currency method is universally available. OKX says web and app users should look in their trading account settings; its announcement says the choice applies at the sub-account level and cannot be switched while spot orders are pending. Check the setting visible in your own account before relying on it for an order.

Check the arithmetic without mistaking an example for a live rate
Suppose, only for calculation, that a BTC/USDT buy fills for 0.02 BTC at 50,000 USDT per BTC and that the applicable fee rate is 0.10%. The order value is 1,000 USDT. These are assumed numbers, not an OKX quote or a customer trade.
- Pay in BTC received: fee = 0.02 × 0.001 = 0.00002 BTC. The net amount delivered is 0.01998 BTC for 1,000 USDT spent.
- Pay in USDT spent: fee = 1,000 × 0.001 = 1 USDT. The full 0.02 BTC is delivered, while total USDT spent is 1,001 USDT.
Both calculations use the same assumed percentage and order value. The difference is where the fee appears. If you compare only the BTC balance and ignore the USDT debit, the quote-currency option can look free when it is not. If your account has a different rate, a rebate, or a partially filled order, use the actual fill entries instead of these numbers.
What happens when you sell?
OKX says the new payment choice is for spot buy orders. Its announcement states that spot-sell fees continue to be deducted from the quote currency received. On a BTC/USDT sell, that normally means the USDT proceeds are reduced by the fee. For an illustrative sale of 0.02 BTC at 50,000 USDT per BTC with an assumed 0.10% fee, the gross proceeds are 1,000 USDT, the fee is 1 USDT, and the net proceeds are 999 USDT. Again, the percentage and price here are arithmetic assumptions, not live terms.
Do not apply this spot example to a futures contract, a card purchase, P2P, or Convert. Those products have different pricing or fee records. For the broader distinction between spot, futures, and funding, read our OKX spot and futures fee guide.
Verify the fee after your order fills
- Open the relevant spot pair and your Order history in the official OKX website or app.
- Open the order’s Details and inspect each fill’s executed quantity, price, maker/taker treatment, fee amount, and fee currency. OKX’s fee FAQ says the web Details view can show the fee calculation; the app’s fill details also show the charged fee.
- Compare the fill with both asset movements. For a buy, check the BTC credited and USDT debited; for a sell, check the BTC sold and net USDT received.
- If the amount still differs, check for multiple fills, a different execution price, the current fee tier, and whether the buy-side payment option is available and enabled for the account used.
An unfilled or cancelled portion has no executed trading fee. A difference between the quoted buy and sell prices is a spread, not the same line item as a maker or taker fee. OKX’s FAQ also says Express Buy/Sell and Convert show an all-in quote rather than the same order-book fee display. For a longer reconciliation, use the guide to finding and exporting OKX fee history.
Quick answers
Why did I receive less BTC than the quantity on my buy order?
The default received-currency method can deduct the spot fee in BTC. Check the fill’s fee line and your credited BTC amount. Partial fills and execution price can also change an estimate.
Can I always pay my OKX spot buy fee in USDT instead?
No. OKX warns that the quote-currency option may not apply to every customer. Look for the payment choice in your own trading account settings and confirm the fee currency on an actual fill.
Does paying the fee in USDT lower the fee rate?
The payment choice changes which currency bears the charge. Check your account’s maker or taker rate separately; do not infer a discount from receiving the full BTC quantity.
